Zombies...and why Twilight sucks.

We all love zombies...they're becoming the new big thing since Stephanie Meyers allegedly ruined the vampyre name with her band of sparkling, adolescent, fang-less vamps. So while may of us may have read the books (and possibly enjoyed them as well), but detest the unnecessary and annoying hype, we seem to have placed our allegiances with a long-forgotten friend - the zombie.
You can't ruin the gore, horror, and fear that a zombie evokes in us, right?

Well, that may be wrong. Books and comics are beginning to pop up across all countries. The harm in this? They have the same type of central theme as Twilight, but replace the romanticized vampyre with the charming rot of misunderstood zombies.

Okay, before I go any further, I must say that I am a huge fan of Generation Dead, by Daniel Waters. It is the perfect teen-zombie romance novel. And most importantly, it doesn't leave me thinking that the most important thing in life is to have two super-hot mythological, supernatural men fighting over me while I sit in a chair and sob about how terrible my life is when one of them decides to leave.
Don't get me wrong. I LIKED the Twilight books. They weren't exactly the best pieces of literature I've read (that spot can only be held by Harry Potter, who I am an eternal fan of), but they weren't terrible either. Okay, so the sparkling kind of annoyed me and I liked to pretend that they weren't really vampires at all, but just supernatural (because calling them vampires is a disgrace to Dracula and Bram Stoker), but overall, the supporting characters were intriguing and I found myself wanting to know more. I was a Twi-lover.

But then the first movie came out. It reminded me of a comedy-laced documentary, but it was a refreshing change to some of the other movies that were out at that time.
...Then little girls, no bigger than the age of eight were running around wearing Twilight apparel. Twilight's not exactly what you would call an adult movie - no nudity, not too much violence. But what it does have are underlying messages that:
  1. Support the idea that the most important thing that young girls should be worried about is having a 'hot' boyfriend.
  2. That said girl should give up EVERYTHING for said boy (because instincts are never wrong and people never break up, right???)
  3. That after boy leaves, girl should play with other boy's hearts.
  4. That sex validates a relationship.
And these little children that are watching an calling Edward Cullen 'sexy' (when they don't even know what sexy means) are sickening. It is one thing to let a child watch these things, but when the child does not understand that this is not the way love and life works, then there is a problem. To the vampyre world, the following things are wrong with Twilight:
  1. They have no fangs. This is a problem because vampires are naturally supposed to have sharp fangs to rip and break through the flesh. I'm pretty sure that science would back up the idea that an animal that rips flesh in order to feed would have naturally sharp teeth. Not dull teeth that would be more suitable to a diet of vegetation.
  2. Another fang problem: Fangs PIERCE the skin. How do the people (victims) in the movie have fang bites on them, if the vamps don't have fangs? These vamps have regular teeth with industrial strength which would surely crush and break the wrist or neck of the person, not leave a nice crescent-shaped scar that would let them walk away from the attack.
  3. There is nothing intimidating about a sparkling vampire. What are you going to do? Blind me to death? I understand that for the sake of Twilight, they use it as a lure, but what exactly would cause them to sparkle? Legendary vampire lore states that the sun (fire) is natural enemy to the vampyre because it is the most natural pure source that fights against the 'disease' and rots the body of the unnatural walking dead. (ya, know, exploding vamps are pretty cool too).
  4. We understand that vampirism is a lonely existence, but to watch the girl while she sleeps and then ADMIT IT, and coddle her like some type of pet or trophy is just creepy. If you wanted to spend all eternity with her, you'd change her...you are not a love-sick school boy. You are a hundred year old vampire.
  5. Bram Stoker's Dracula was an amazing feat in terms of literary and even cinematic achievements (Nosferatu, anyone?), but today, much thanks to Stephanie Meyers, children - and teens as well - are running around calling Edward Cullen a vampire and talking about how vampires sparkle, etc. etc. etc. But ask those same teens and children who Bram Stoker is, they'll have no idea. Ask them who Dracula is, they'll either say "some vampire", a "monster", or (if you're talking to someone whose extremely out there) they may even say "that guy on the cereal box" (count Chocula). Ask who Nosferatu is and you just bought yourself a one-way ticket to the loony bin ("Who the hell is that!?).
I hope you are happy Stephanie Meyers, you've turned the feared Dracula into a dewy-eyed, sparkling, fairy who can't seem to live without a idiotic teen girl who is willing to unquestionably give her everything to a boy (vampire or not). You're  doing a swell job at sending a good message to your readers and an even better job at keeping our society interested in reading by replacing those "boring", "traditional", "old-school" texts with your lovey-dovey, fairy-princess piece of intelligence-killing idiocy.

Please, people, do not let there be another Twilight. Let's save the fearsome name of Zombies before Edward gets more undead competition for that undeserving brat, Bella.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

This week, the American version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was released in theatres and I was finally able to see it just a few mere hours ago. To those who are unfamiliar with the series, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo started as a book trilogy written by Stieg Larrson, and quickly became a success in Sweden. The trilogy is centered around an awkward, secretive hacker with a photographic memory named Lisbeth Salander.
Salander has had a rough life, an abusive father, a life in mental wards since the age of 12, and is now under the guardianship of a man who uses his power as a way to rape and torture Lisbeth. But then she joins Mikael Blomkvist (the 'hero' and other main character of the trilogy) in an effort to help him uncover a murder that happened over 40 years ago.
Now, the original film (and it's two sequels as well) were all well directed and produced. The acting was splendid. Since they were foreign, however, the English dubs definitely took away from the film since some of the interpretations sounded absurd. But since this remake was American, dubs were not a problem. The lines were well written, the acting was still splendid, and the director did just as amazing in his interpretation of the story.
And to make it even more enjoyable, this American remake was just as sexual, just as steamy, and just as suspenseful as the original, if not more so.
Overall, I was not expecting the American remake of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to be as good as it turned out to be. In the previews, Lisbeth (who is played by rising actress Roony Mara) does not seem to be as impressive as she was in the original (played by Noomi Rapace). But this was certainly due to bias on my part, as Mara's performance truly did grow on me throughout the film. This movie will definitely earn Mara more recognition on the red carpet and I must say that I too have become a fan of her acting talent.
This version of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is well made for original fans of the series, as well as newcomers to the trilogy. It should entertain all adult audiences (yes, I said adult! NO CHILDREN...we get to see a lot more than just Lisbeth's pierced nipples!!) and will certainly leave a lasting impression. Suspense, sex, and murder. Those are the three ingredients that only Stieg Larrson could make into such an amazing tale and it is sure to bring a little shock into American cinema.

American Horror Story - Season One

So I actually planned on doing a review for American Horror Story after the first episode or two. However, I really wasn't all that sure that it would be a success...but, to my amazment and much so to my amusment, it became a big hit. Season 1, consisting of 12 episodes ended this previous week, and though I found that the final episode lacked a bit and by no means tied up the plot, it did not bring down the level of the story whatsoever.
American Horror Story, season 1, focused on the Harmon family, who recently moved in order to start a new life after the husband cheated on his Wife. Throughout the episodes, we realize that maybe the couple should have just went their seperate ways and set up visitation rights with their teenage daughter who ends up getting romantically involved with an over-emotional, homicidal-but-sexy ghost and looses a little more than she bargained for. This is only the begininning however, as we are introduced to a ghost maid, a 'rubber man', a "Spooky Little Girl" and a rather interesting group of ghosts that all reside in the house.
But there are rules. And as the Harmon family uncovers the house's strange and gory history, we are taken on a well produced and highly convincing journey through a show that could quite possibly change the world of horror.
I could go on forever talking about the amazing visuals and convincing acting and hard work that was clearly put into this show. But instead, I'll leave you with this little clip and let you decide for yourself if American Horror Story is worth your precious mortal time:

Movie Review 1 - My Soul To Take

My Soul To Take, directed by Wes Craven, is not exactly a new movie (okay so maybe I lied when I said I'd be reviewing new things). It cam out nearly a year ago. And even though most other reviews only gave it a C rating, I definitely feel that it is worth watching a time or two.
Craven fans beware, however. This movie did not really remind me of your average Wes Craven film! And where some people may say that is because he has lost his touch, I merely say that he is experimenting with his style in order to appeal to a new and extremely different generation than his past movies were devoted to.
Overall, My Soul To Take was not such a bad movie; sure, there could have been more convincing special effects (blood-wise) and there were a few akward moments between the characters (but as that stupid Twilight movie proves, akward actors seem to be all the rage these days), but it was sometimes creepy, a little scary, and slightly funny at the most appropriate times.
Anyways, to tell you more about the movie, the first scene takes place in a house where a crazed, psychotic husband murders his pregnant wife and attempts to kill his young daughter. The scene ends mainly with his death and a pretty cool ambulance wreck/action scene. the movie then speeds up to 16 years later when we are introduced to seven teens who just so happened to be born on the exact day that the killer (pegged the riverton ripper) died. These teens claim to represent each of the Ripper's 7 personalities and hold a special rituals to mark the Ripper's death. But little do these teens know, that someone is continuing the Ripper's legacy...and they will not stop until all seven teens and everyone around them are dead.

This is definitely a   entertaining film and a must
see for all horror fans.

Music Review 1 - The Black Veil Brides

Okay, so Black Veil Brides (BVB) is a band that has been rocking my ipod for quite some time now...and they are a few years old. But I figured I would blog about them anyway. To get a little taste of their style, there is a pic below of the band (before their epic hair and too much makeup):

And let me just say that these guys are amazing! They are young, a little mischievious, and definitely put on a good show!! What really drew me to their rock/grunge/metal style was the lyrics. They just had this odd way of getting under your skin, bringing out my emotions, and laying who i was out on the table for the world to see. Second thing that drew me to them: their singer Andy Six.
Andy is a charming, adorable and more importantly, understanding person. He does not hide the fact that as a high school student he was ridiculed for his taste in music, clothing, etc. and he uses these experiences to create lyrics that scream hope to the teens going through what he went through.
BVB will undoubtedly go dowm in music history as one of the greats.

The new BVB album comes out next month <3

Welcome to Death by Chapter

Hello, everyone, my name is Heaven_Sent_666 and I have decided to start this blog in order to spread all the newest and/or underrated bands, books/authors, movies, and other such works of art. I am pleased to say that I will also occasionaly post my own short stories and works of art as I am currently on my way to becoming a published author.
     So in terms of this blog, I'll tell ya'll a little bit about my favorite things when it comes to movies and books and such;
Books: Harry Potter, Thirst (the last vampire), the Vampire Chronicles, Stephen King books,
and the Maker's Song Series, and Daughters of the Moon.
Movies: The SAW series!!!!!! I don't really like comedy all that much, I basically only watch
horror movies and some romance here and there.
Music: My favorite bands right now are Automatic Loveletter, Agonist, Black Veil Brides,
Whitechapel, and X Japan. I pretty much listen to any genre of music

So that info. should give you a pretty good idea on the types of media I will be blogging about and a good idea of who I am as a person. It is very easy for me to judge a person by their interests in books and such (maybe that just makes me odd).
